Horror Month is here and the Epic Games Store is already delivering free games to get you in the spirit of Halloween. It’s not horror games though, it’s more the setting that matters Holiday
fits.
The most important key data for the games can be found here:
- Rising Hell: In the vertical platformer, you will be taken to the depths of hell from which you must escape. If you die, you lose almost all progress. So Rising Hell is a roguelite.
- Slain: Back From Hell: Here you will also find yourself in hell again – but this time without roguelite, but with puzzle elements. Mainly, however, demons continue to be beaten up, while groovy music underscores your bloody deeds.
As always, the offer is valid for exactly seven days and ends on October 13 at 5 p.m. If you want to grab the games directly, the following link will take you to the promotion. If you’d rather find out more about the titles, then feel free to read on.

Rising Hell – The brawler that takes us back to the time of video slots
Let’s do a short quiz: I’ll describe a game to you and you can guess the title. The wanted game is a roguelite from the last two years where you try to escape from hell. You cut your way through all sorts of demons. If you die, you have to work your way up again – but Hell is procedurally generated and changes with every run.
The solution is, drum roll please: Rising Hell! Okay, probably not a big surprise – but it might as well have been celebrated Hades. It sounds very similar on paper, even if the style of the games is clearly different.
Another similarity is also the feedback of the fans: Rising Hell is coming on Steam with 91 percent positive reviews. Admittedly, Hades is a bit more popular at an unbelievable 98 percent and has almost a thousand times as many ratings. We were also more than impressed in our Hades test:
Hades im Test
An action roleplaying masterpiece
In Rising Hell you don’t play the son of Hades, but many different characters that you can unlock. Not only do they differ in looks, but also in gameplay. Of course, boss fights against demons like Belzebub and Co. shouldn’t be missing either.
Who might be interested in Rising Hell?
Above all, you should of course be able to make friends with platformers that come along in pixel style. If you like rock and metal, that would be a big plus as well. The music accompanies you throughout the game. Last but not least, a pinch of frustration resistance is an advantage – after all, thanks to the roguelite mechanics, you start almost from the beginning every time you die.
That’s in Slain: Back From Hell

If your metal heart hasn’t been pumping to the beat of the drums often enough lately, then you should pay attention to Slain: Back From Hell. The soundtrack of the Castlevania-like game runs one heavy metal track after the other.
Even the style of the game is packed with homages to artwork from classic metal albums. Otherwise, you bang yourselves against skeletons, monsters and other bloodstained opponents in the usual arcade manner.
Metal: Hellsinger, another video game dedicated entirely to metal culture, was recently released. In the shooter you have to shoot in time. You can see what that can look like in the following gameplay trailer:

Who should give Slain: Back from Hell a try?
It’s relatively obvious that Metal fans in particular will find joy here. If you’re not familiar with the genre of music, you’ll probably have a hard time with Slain: Back from Hell.
