Who is Solitairica for?
First and foremost, the game is of course suitable for people who enjoy card games and round strategy. However, it should be noted that Solitairica is very different from popular genre sizes such as Hearthstone or Magic: The Gathering Arena. So don’t expect it to fall in the same direction.
What is Solitairica about?
In the game you take on the role of a brave warrior who has to fight the evil emperor Stuck. He is entrenched in his well-guarded castle and several opponents have to be overcome to get to the goal.
The opponents not only differ in their appearance, but also impress with their unique abilities, which you have to analyze and plan for your strategy. If you fail, the path starts all over again in the usual roguelike manner – the improvements that have been made remain largely in place.
How do the fights in Solitairica play?
The battles are turn-based. In each round you draw a card and you have to decimate your opponent’s hand as in solitaire. You can choose opposing cards that are either one higher or one lower than your drawn card.
Based on its color, each eliminated card feeds one of your four energy pools. Have you collected enough energy of a kind, you can use powerful spells that you have previously equipped. With the spells you can make enemy cards disappear, or you can build a shield that protects your life points.
With every victory you earn gold, which you can spend on new spells or items in a shop between matches. The latter grant you, for example, a larger supply of energy or increase your life points. There are different decks in the game, which not only provide variety, but can also be improved.

Faeria for free: 5 more unusual new card games to try out
At this point in time, 232 user reviews of Solitairica can be found on Steam, 84 percent of which are positive. The integration of roguelike and RPG elements, which give the old hand solitaire a completely new image, is particularly praised. So writes Steam user Chudah:
“By being forced to play the game over and over again, you experiment with different combinations of skills that didn’t originally come to mind. The shop inventory is generated randomly after each match, so you may never find the right item […].
That may sound frustrating, but I can’t tell you how often I had to try a new strategy to see how powerful it is. There are different strategies for each deck that add flexibility and durability to the gameplay. ”
For Steam users justblue luck in the card game is not decisive for winning:
“A well thought-out card game that combines elements of solitaire with elements of trading card games. By choosing and using the magic spells you can usually compensate for the luck factor. The game manages that you can attribute losses to bad luck without a guilty conscience, while wins almost exclusively based on your own skills and good tactics. The six decks play astonishingly different and are not just content extension. “
Steam-User JonesR is enthusiastic about the game and writes in his review:
“I think Solitairica is my favorite solitaire game on Steam. It’s really fun fighting the monsters with different cards and power-ups. While the RNG factor can be heavy at times, it keeps the game challenging and never feels unfair at.”

Hearthstone vs. Artifact vs. Magic – which card game is right for you?
But not all reviews are positive. The combination of roguelike and card game doesn’t work for many players. Steam users too Varkster does not seem to be convinced:
“[…] After each defeat, the information “Every time you die, you get stronger” appears. That’s not the case. You have to play a lot of games before you get even a little “stronger”. It then repeats itself over and over and it seems to be. “
For Steam users Masterlobster only pure luck leads to victory:
“It’s not that I don’t like the idea of the game, but most of the time it comes down to luck whether you win or not. The strategy always seems to be the same or very similar. The luck factor makes this game frustrating because it is Makes it seem like there’s nothing you can do, no matter how strategically you are. “
Dawnrazor the whole thing seems to look similar:
“A good concept in itself. It is – as a casual game for in between – fun at first. However, it is very dependent on luck. And unfortunately it remains that way with the purchased features that you can take with you / buy between runs. Unfortunately, there are no real ones Increase or real improvement in chances. And with it: high potential for frustration. “
By the way, there are many card games. There is even a rogue about a cursed card game that kills its players. Our editor Nora at GameStar Plus got to the bottom of this creepy pasta:

Will there be any new content for Solitairica?
At the moment, it doesn’t look like there will be any new content or updates for the card game in the foreseeable future. A year ago, the developer Clint contacted one reddit-Post to speak and explained that they were working on a new title and simply did not have the capacity to continue tinkering with Solitairica.
This is hardly surprising, since the team consists only of Clint, his wife and a few other helpers who are employed on a part-time basis. The new game is called ZOR: Pilgrimage of the Slorfs and should appear in 2021. It should also be about cards and play in the same universe as Solitairica. A first gameplay trailer and further information can also be found on the official site of the game.
