Reggie Fils-Aimé, former president Nintendo American, recently talked about more possibilities grounded or a mother 3 Localized, but unfortunately, just saying fans shouldn’t expect anything anytime soon.
While only two Earthbound games have been officially released in the West, known as Mother in Japan, the third game you’ve probably heard of has never been released here. It’s a bit of a meme that Mother 3 will never come out in the West, and Fils-Aimé made some recent comments that don’t quite speak to the confidence that it’s happening. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Fils-Aimé talked about which old franchises he would like to see updated.
“I would love to see old franchises refreshed,” Fils-Aimé said. “I would love to see something Child Icarus There is also a new direction. “However, when asked if he wanted to see more Earthbound Fils-Aimé, she said matter-of-factly “Don’t hold your breath.” Going on, he said: ‘Again, I’m not there [anymore],I do not know how it is. ”
However, he did say, “When Mr. Iwata was alive, he really understood the enthusiasm of the fans for the mother series. And you need to remember that Earthbound Beginnings was first brought to the virtual console platform under his supervision.
“So the company knows people are passionate about that team, but thinking about how to make it a reality, thinking about how to make it bigger, you know, let me call it a relatively small fan base desperate to see “Mother Earth 3” or the next entry in the “Earth City” series.”
The original Mother was released for Famicom in 1989 and later released in the West as Earthbound Beginnings. The follow-up, Mother 2, better known as Earthbound, appeared on the SNES in North America in 1995 and later became available digitally in Europe. But Mother 3, which launched on the Game Boy Advance in 2006, was never released outside of Japan, and is now a cult classic thanks to an excellent fan translation. Fans are still hoping for an official English release of the game, and have been doing so for years, but Fils-Aimé’s comments seem to suggest that might not happen.
