The confinement linked to the coronavirus did not prevent Jeff Kaplan, game director ofOverwatch and vice-president of Blizzard, to shoot a new dev message video to keep the Overwatch community informed of what the Blizzard team is working on.
The focal point of this update will be the new game mode, Comptition in free selection. Available in the Arcade, it offers the same rules as the competitive mode, but without imposing a role limit as is now the case in the official competitive mode. Blizzard took into account the first feedback from the community and their popularity across the different regions; Jeff notes that the game mode is more popular in South Core than in the United States, for example.
The game mode will be removed fromOverwatch to return during the month of June after having been reworked, with a new short accounting season for the mode with a duration of less than a month. In addition, the game mode will leave the Arcade to join the tab for competitive modes. Although the 2-2-2 competition will remain the official mode, it can also be chosen in the tab. The advantages of this mode are to give more choices to the players, but also to shorten the queues.
Jeff Kaplan also announced the arrival of balancing changes in the next update, with a buff of Bastion and Angel in particular, and recalled the other contributions of the latter in the game.
