Of course, Disney is best known for its feature films. From simple animated films to live action, For more than 80 years, the company with big ears has been able to reinvent itself again and again. However, there are some of his productions that are still relatively unknown to the general public. His brain is then swapped with that of a monster and the hero must do everything he can to fix the problem.. What makes this short film so special is undoubtedly its genre, which is not very common for a children’s film: horror.

A Disney horror film?

The horror side of the film mainly comes from the character Mickey as the monster took possession of his body. Then we discover him in a gaunt figure, with terribly sharp teeth and large yellow eyes; in short, a completely monstrous version of the character

. We are a long way from the nice and funny Mickey Mouse with his high voice and sense of duty. Additionally, many critics have pointed out this drastic change in tone. Los Angeles Times What “It was difficult to follow the story for a certain audience, even though the character overcomes that.”. Nevertheless, the work was nominated in the “Best Animated Short Film” category at the 68th Academy Awards.

Even if it’s only a 7 minute production, the short film has numerous references to many other projects,

and not just Disney. For example, at the beginning of the film, Mickey is playing a fighting video game in which we can see the dwarf Dopey fighting the witch of
Snow White. In this horror genre, however, the main reference can be found in the person behind the macabre experience: Doctor Frankenollie. In addition to the obvious Doctor Frankenstein referenceThe mad scientist’s house is modeled after Regan’s from the film
The Exorcist. So there are a lot of hidden things for such a small film that unfortunately never knew how to find its audience. Today the short film is almost impossible to find, as if Disney was ashamed of its little horror baby.
