Directors make a lot of films in their careers – and rarely are all of them good. Occasionally, directors are ashamed of works that are still celebrated by fans today.
Typically, directors only take on projects if they believe in the film’s potential and have a clear vision. Occasionally, directors even develop their films themselves right from the start, but during the course of production you can often expect interference from the film studio – unless your name is Quentin Tarantino or Martin Scorsese.
It is precisely these forced changes that studios demand from directors that are often the cause of problems. Whether scenes are re-shot, actors are replaced or completely new versions of the film are edited together, in the end the finished film is not always the film that the director initially imagined. Below you will find 10 films that the director ultimately didn’t like.
David Fincher – Alien 3 (1993)
David Fincher is now known for films like “Fight Club”, “Gone Girl” and “The Social Network”, but “Alien 3” was his first film and when he started working on the project at the age of 28, he missed it of experience and the necessary say, as he explained during the PR tour for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” in 2009. Only five weeks of preparation and an unfinished script made “Alien 3” a baptism of fire for Fincher.
Oh, it was just terrible. This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I had to work on it for two years, got fired three times, and had to fight for every single thing. Nobody has [“Alien 3”] hated more than me; To this day no one hates him more than me.
