In addition to Alien: Romulus, which opens exclusively in theaters on August 16, Disney, 20th Century Fox, and FX have been slowly but surely working on an ambitious Alien TV series created by Fargo’s Noah Hawley. Now, after several delays and strike-related production hurdles, principal photography has wrapped and a seemingly definitive title has been announced.

According to Hawley himself and FX head John Landgraf, the film will be titled Alien: Earth. Let’s stop beating around the bush, huh?

“Noah is now fully focused on writing Alien: Earth Season 1. We’re in post-production and we’re talking to him every week, watching clips. We’re so excited about Alien: Earth that we told him that if Alien: Earth returns to TV like we hope it will, we want him to focus on writing at least two seasons and then come back to Fargo Season 6. So it’s going to take some time, but I’m also very proud of the show,” Landgraf explained in a lengthy interview.

FX is enjoying a string of wins right now, with Shôgun exceeding its original limited series schedule with critically acclaimed immediate results, and Bear continuing to be one of the hottest shows of the moment. In addition, Vampire Life is about to enter its sixth and final season, while Reserve Dogs has aired for three seasons and has performed well, earning FX multiple award nominations.

Regarding Alien: Earth, Hawley also shared some post-shooting thoughts: “We just wrapped production and now I’m starting a long post-production job on the visual effects… This is a very big TV show. It’s great to have the time to be involved in it… In the first year of any production, you don’t want to be stuck in time. I’ve seen four of the eight-hour director’s cuts and been involved in the process of figuring out what it wants to be from a cinematic perspective. It’s one of my favorite parts of making a TV show.” Plot details (other than the story taking place on Earth and before the events of the movies) are currently being kept secret, but the cast includes Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Kit Young and Timothy Olyphant, among others.

For some time now, rumors have been circulating, as well as expectations set by the studio. Alien will be released on Hulu in 2025 (and possibly on Star+ internationally via Disney+)It remains to be seen what quarter it will ultimately hit theaters, though. Looking at the post-production schedule for major series like this, we wouldn’t expect it to hit theaters before late spring or early summer, but we also have to take into account how the Disney giants might be planning to juggle the multitude of blockbuster releases scheduled for next year.
