Fans of the hit series “Game of Thrones” from HBO can look forward to ambitious new gaming fodder. According to reports, an MMORPG from the makers of The Finals is on the way.
According to a new report, Nexon is working on an ambitious new game based on the hit series “Game of Thrones”. The company also includes Embark Studios, which recently caused a stir with the shooter The Finals. Can a new Game of Thrones game be similarly successful?
According to a report by Redanian Intelligence Nexon is therefore working on an MMORPG implementation of Game of Thrones. The project does not yet have a final name, but as an online game it should be comparable to the format of Diablo Immortal, among other things. You will be able to choose between male and female characters, which you can also customize. Accordingly, you will probably not take on any roles of well-known Game of Thrones characters from the books or the TV series.
While nothing is known about the specific story of the MMORPG, according to the report it will take place in the north of Westeros. Winterfell and the Wall will be the main locations, with the game taking place between seasons 4 and 5 of the TV series. Roose Bolton rules Winterfell, while Jon Snow and Sam Tarly are at the Wall. Factions other than those anchored in the north are also said to be represented, but there is currently no information about this.
Nexon has already developed a very popular MMORPG with MapleStory in the past, so it has experience with the genre. Nevertheless, fans of the franchise are also skeptical, also because such online titles often rely on microtransactions on a larger scale. If there is further information about the possible Game of Thrones MMORPG apart from the insider report, you will of course also find out about it on igamesnews.
The successful fantasy franchise has previously been the subject of video game adaptations. Among other things, there is Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series, which was very promising but was canceled after a first season. The game implementation with the highest Metacritic score of 84 percent to date is the strategy game Reigns: Game of Thrones.
