Fantasy fans will be heading back to Westeros in 2025, but the upcoming “Game of Thrones” spin-off will be unexpectedly short. That’s what George RR Martin himself says about “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”.
“Game of Thrones” is based on the “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels by George RR Martin, “House of the Dragon” emerged from the Targaryen family chronicle “Fire and Blood” and the upcoming Westeros series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is also based directly on Martin’s work.
However, since short stories are being adapted here, it is not surprising that the planned seasons – there will be at least three – will also be significantly shorter than those of “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon”.
Short, complete seasons
How George RR Martin on his blog
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” stands out from “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon” not only because of the length of the season, but also because of the fact that each season will tell its own story. Despite the same main cast, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” offers a much more rounded experience, as long as you don’t deviate too much from the originals.
Even though “Game of Thrones” has shown us that HBO is not necessarily waiting for scripts from George RR Martin, it is currently assumed that three seasons of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will be filmed based on Martin’s three short stories. However, Martin is still planning further sequels – but of course only when he has finally finished “The Winds of Winter”.
