Generation Zero – Avalanche Studios’ four-player cooperative open world shooter set in Sweden in the 1980s – just launched Xbox Game Pass. Our own Tom Orry found an official email on the Xbox app and landed in our inbox to announce it, and the game seems to be available for download through the subscription service from today (November 30).
A dedicated Xbox Game Pass trailer has also been posted to Systemic Reaction’s YouTube page (see below), showing the unique environment and atmosphere of this atmospheric shooter.
The game is set in the Swedish countryside and has a very different tone from Avalanche’s chaotic Just Cause series. Generation Zero can be played alone or in cooperation with up to four players, and requires you to use guerrilla tactics to truly solve the various enemies you will encounter in the winter world.
You will ambush, sneak past, and occasionally shoot intrusive machine races in an open world, accompanied by dynamic weather and day and night cycles. It looks a bit like a painting by Simon Stalenhag-I really like it.
The timing of the game’s landing on Xbox Game Pass makes sense: the zero-generation resistance update is finally landing on Xbox consoles soon.
This update introduces a wealth of content to help you counter the invading machines, including the base defense mode and the transformation of key map locations.
The game did not leave much impression when it was launched in 2019, but maybe the new life breath and new major updates of Game Pass can reverse the fate of the game to a certain extent.
