If you regularly use the Germany ticket in the Berlin and Brandenburg area, you will have to prepare for a big change in December. What commuters and travelers now need to know.
- Since November 2023, the Germany ticket has been recognized not only in regional trains, but also in a few IC and ICE connections in Berlin and Brandenburg.
- This should end on December 15, 2025: The DB has terminated the existing contract because the trains were regularly overcrowded.
- The long -distance traffic connections between Berlin and Prenzlau, Elsterwerda, Potsdam and Cottbus are affected.
Anyone who regularly is traveling in the Berlin and Brandenburg area with the Germany ticket has previously benefited from a special goodwill regulation: on certain sections of the route, the cheap regional train ticket is also recognized in ICS and ICEs. With its original price of 49 dollars per month, which was raised to 58 dollars at the beginning of the year, the Germany ticket is one of the country's most popular public transport offers. With it you can use practically all regional trains, i.e. S-Bahn, RB and Re-trains, as well as public transport (bus, subway, tram, etc.) unlimited-but the discounted ticket is not recognized in long-distance trains, i.e. ICS, ICES and ECS.
Germany ticket will no longer be recognized in ICS and ICES from December
So far there is only one exception to the last rule. In November 2023, Deutsche Bahn and the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) agreed that all VBB tickets including the Germany ticket may also be used on selected IC and ICE connections between Berlin and Brandenburg. Commuters in particular benefit from this that prefer the (actually) quiet long -distance trains of the overcrowded regional train.
