Gaming News God of War Ragnarok: Sony Teases Mechanics As Exciting As Kratos’ Leviathan Axe!
Announced in September 2019 during the PlayStation Showcase that launched the PS5, God of War: Ragnarok is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Developed by Sony Santa Monica, the title appears to have exciting new mechanics.
In the end we know very little about this God of War Ragnarok whose release in 2022 has been confirmed again by Sony. The trailer confirmed the presence of Tyr and Thor, but we already know that the hammer-wield ing god is portrayed in a rather unusual way.
New mechanics as flashy as Kratos’ axe?
A way of saying that we need to forget about Thor’s portrayal in the movies? Yes, as evidenced by the artwork presented by Santa Monica. However, certain traits of the Norse god will be present: “(Thor will be) a tall, broad and hedonistic man who is a bit childish (…) not in keeping with the image of Thor that people currently have”. The fact remains that God of War Ragnarok, apart from the story that will take over the game from 2018 by making us discover new places and meet new deities, has to bring a certain number of novelties and surprises, in order not only to be a “simple sequel”.
The developers haven’t yet detailed all of these new features, but the teasing seems to be beginning. On April 1st, a player with the alias Trophy Dad shared the moment in God of War when players learn how to recall the Leviathan Axe. In his tweet, he highlights the feeling felt during this discovery and thinks the developers have put a lot of effort into conveying this sense of divine power. A tweet picked up the next day by PlayStation Sound Designer Beau Anthony Jimenez:
I’m really looking forward to players reacting in a similar way to what we’re dreaming up for God of War: Ragnarök.
Suffice it to say that work was a blast 😊 https://t.co/n1CWGjwdgq

I’m very excited to see players reacting the same way to what we’re dreaming up for God of War: Ragnarok. It must be said that the work was enormous.
Lots of theories while you wait to learn more
It was enough for a lot of fan theories to pop up on the web. Some envision that Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer, will be entitled to similar treatment to the axe, others believe that the studio will view this mechanism exactly differently. We’ll have to wait a few more weeks/months before we know more, so be patient.
Unfortunately, these new mechanics were developed without George Mawle, lead designer of the Leviathan Axe, who passed away on September 2nd, 2021. 7 months after leaving the studio impacted many in the industry. Industry veteran George Mawle had worked on Prototype 2, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, Crash of the Titans, Robotech: The Macross Saga, and even others Hot Wheels: Stunt Track Driver.
