God of War is also supposed to come as a TV series, but the project has apparently suffered a serious setback.
God of War is one of the largest and most important exclusive brands from Sony, which has already caused quite a stir on the PlayStation. It’s no wonder that the company wants to explore new avenues for the franchise and also bring a TV series onto the market – but this project has now suffered a serious setback.
According to a new report from Variety Executive producer and showrunner Rafe Judkins as well as other executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have now withdrawn from the project. Several scripts for the TV series are said to have already been completed, which would have determined the direction of this implementation. Ultimately, however, Amazon and Sony decided that they wanted to develop the series implementation in a different direction.
The result of the whole thing: The God of War TV series is supposed to continue, but work on it now seems to be starting all over again. Cory Barlog, creative director of the responsible development studio Santa Monica, remains on board as executive producer, as do Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Production, Yumi Yang from Santa Monica Studio and Roy Lee from Vertigo.
How the other positions will be filled and who will play Kratos in the series remains to be seen. The series was originally confirmed for the Amazon Prime Video video service in 2022. Due to the delay, the series will probably have to wait at least another three years to be broadcast.
