At the request of rights holder EA, GOG.com is removing various classic role-playing games from the sale. Are affected Ultima Underworld 1 + 2, Syndicate Plus and Syndicate Wars. The games will no longer be available on GOG from Monday, June 28, 2021 at 3 p.m.

However, if you own the games, you can still download and play them via GOG. If you are interested, you can buy said titles until Monday, then they will also be yours permanently. The time for this is good, by the way, as the GOG Summer Sale is currently running and all three games are each reduced by 74 percent. This means that each game costs around 1.30 dollars.
If you have a loose wallet, we will also inform you about interesting offers in the Steam Summer Sale, which is currently in full swing. If you don’t want to spend any money, but still want to play something new, check out the free games this weekend:

Why are the games no longer being sold?
The exact reasons for the delisting on GOG can currently only be speculated. The two Ultimas can still be had individually for 5 dollars each on EA’s in-house distribution platform Origin.
Without speculating too wildly in the dark, it seems reasonable to assume that EA could do something with the brands. The spectrum of possibilities ranges from new editions to a continuation of the brands to platform exclusivity. However, none of this has been officially confirmed. So we’ll have to wait and see what happens to Ultima Underworld and Syndicate in the long run.
