Surprisingly, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake made an appearance at last night’s Ubisoft Forward. Well, in a sense. In its brief appearance, we did get a new release window, and enough candles to satisfy any hippie’s chill lighting quota.
Yes, in addition to the three main titles we knew would be at the show – Assassin’s Creed: Shadow, XDefiant, and Star Wars: Outlaws – we actually got an update on the Sands of Time remake, which has had a pretty rocky development journey so far.

During the showcase, which featured a 30-second trailer for the Sands of Time remake, we did get one key detail: after multiple delays and rejiggers, the game is now expected to release in 2026. No, there’s no set month or day, don’t get too hung up on that.
Other than that, as you can see below, all we can admire is a shot of a candle placed in a window, magically relighting, with the wax dripping back onto the candle to convey the sense that time is running backwards. Awesome. Get it? The Blade of Time.

For the sake of journalistic integrity, I won’t speculate on whether this candle is a scented candle. But to be honest, it does look like a regular candle, just in a very fancy candle holder. Maybe this speculation is the origin of the creepy whispers before the candle is relit.
Anyway, if you’re not in the know, The Sands of Time Remastered was originally announced in 2020 and was originally scheduled to release in January 2021 before being delayed to March 2021. Ubisoft then delayed it to an undetermined “later date” but insisted it would still release. Now, it’s listed as releasing in 2026. Hopefully, it actually does release then.
