According to a new report, the Russian version Gotham Knights It has been canceled.
This claim comes from The Happy Warrior (thanks to Eurogamer), which states that the Russian version of the game has been canceled due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. As Eurogamer points out, the game’s Russian subsite is currently causing 404 errors, and the page was last confirmed to be live via archive.org on May 12.
The game’s Steam page also doesn’t mention Russian support, dubbing, or subtitles, meaning that even other versions of the game don’t support Russian. It is unclear whether other Russian-speaking regions will be affected by this putative change.
Warner Bros. has yet to make an official comment on the matter, but apparently a source has commented privately that the company is “very afraid of upsetting the gaming press or causing social media trouble.”
Warner Bros. Montreal The biography of Batgirl, one of the playable characters in the game, was also recently changed. Her story has changed so that instead of simply training enough to recover from paralysis, she is now receiving rehab as part of her recovery.
Fans were critical of her original biography because it suggested that through sheer willpower and training, anyone can recover from a lifelong spinal cord injury. Warner Bros. Montreal worked with charity AbleGamers to improve the character’s story and announced the change during a Q&A session on the game’s Discord server.
Gotham Knights is currently slated for release this October, and while it was originally planned to be available on PS4 and Xbox One, it will now be a new generation only. The game was delayed to 2022 late last year after it was first announced in 2020.
