A top 3 monopolized by games released in recent weeks
If for a week the limelight was intensely focused on the release of Elden Ring, last week a large exclusive PlayStation was released, since it is Gran Turismo 7. According to figures from GamesIndustry, the PS5 physical version of the title has passed three times more than on PS4 in the UK. Without giving exact figures, GamesIndustry nevertheless states that Gran Turismo 7 is the best-selling physical game of the week in our British neighbors, ahead of Elden Ring.
It’s Sony’s second game to sit at the top of the leaderboard (after Horizon Forbidden West), preventing the Elden Ring from sitting on the throne for the second year in a row. However, sales of the latter “only” fell 69% in one week, while we generally see an 80% drop in the week after launch. If these figures do not represent all sales (the digital sales that arrive later), they can indicate a trend in sales in France.
Nintendo discreet but present
In addition to Gran Turismo’s sensational entry into the leaderboard, its three pursuers have all come out in 2022: Elden Ring in second place, Pokémon Legends: Arceus completing the podium, and Horizon Forbidden West reclaiming the chocolate medal. In fifth and sixth place, they are regulars with FIFA 22 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, respectively. The latter is still selling despite its release almost five years ago: a success that had to be relaunched after the 48 additional circuits announced by Nintendo. In seventh place, it’s the long-awaited Triangle Strategy: a cross between Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics, the game published by Square Enix does it as well as Bravely Default II, but half as much as Octopath Traveler, which served as a model for the management artistic. Finally, Animal Crossing: New Horizons (8th), Dying Light 2 (9th) and Minecraft Switch (10th) finish the ranking.
If this ranking is based only on physical distribution of games in the UK, it confirms the trend for 2021: despite Nintendo leading console sales, it is indeed Sony that leads the manufacturer market with 46% market share.
