When a video game trailer pushes the boundaries of our favorite medium, we know: Something very special has happened here. In the case of Grand Theft Auto VI, the hype was only somewhat surprising, but no one would have expected how much the video went through the roof.
After several leaks and an advance announcement, on December 5, 2023 it was finally time for Rockstar Games to release the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. Of course, this caused quite a bit of wind and hype within the video game industry. But other media also picked up the video, for example the Tagesschau reported. So we can say: video games have actually arrived at the center of society. Somehow.

The trailer also received some attention on YouTube itself and broke records within a very short time. Within the first 24 hours of being uploaded, for example, it was viewed a whopping 96 million times, making it the most successful launch of a video game announcement ever. This was even confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records.
The hype has now died down a bit, but the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI is still collecting clicks like all clicker games combined. Now the next milestone has been reached with 150 million views, just 13 days after the initial publication. Rockstar Games should therefore be more than satisfied and happy that the leaks did not harm performance, on the contrary.
This also makes up for the fact that the studio is currently facing a lawsuit. Because in the trailer you can see a fierce, tattooed man who is definitely reminiscent of a real person. The “Florida Joker” threatens Rockstar Games with a lawsuit in any case because he sees his personal rights being violated. Let’s see how this case turns out. In any case, the studio should have enough money.
