After a very long silence, the excellent Sekiro brings back excellent news about an anime adaptation that until then had been the subject of distant rumors.
The last time we heard from FromSoftware about a Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice anime was in May of last year. This was teased by eocuf0 on X.com, who came back a year later with more concrete and particularly promising news.
Sekiro: Shadows will be adjusted twice
When it was released, the 2019 GOTY, called Sekiro, was already the subject of a first adaptation in manga form. Titled Hanbei the Immortal, it was written by Shin Yamamoto and put our training partner at the center of the game. Four years later, we learned that an adaptation, this time in anime, was to come. However, we had to wait another year to get more concrete information about it.
This would officially start production of the Sekiro anime. The animation studio Qzilla would be entrusted with the project, to which we recently owe the opening of Jigokuraku/Hell’s Paradise Season 1. Although we do not yet know if the series will be very interested in the adventures of the wolf this time, we do know that it would be directed by Kenichi Kutsuna, who has an impressive track record. In fact, he has already worked on emblematic works of Japanese animation such as Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist or even Naruto (which will soon be entitled to a live-action film on Netflix).
So the Sekiro anime seems to have given itself the means to realize great ambitions. It remains to be seen when all this will be available. In any case, it would be a limited number of episodes (less than ten). If the prospect of seeing a FromSoftware game of the caliber of Sekiro adapted into an anime seems promising, we would hope that the thing would be widely distributed. In any case, the studio would have nothing against an adaptation of a certain Elden Ring, among others.
