With a recent update to the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5, the game is now safe to play after a potentially harmful security risk was discovered in the game.
This caused quite an uproar as many feared their accounts were at risk! Those affected by malicious actors can find themselves permanently suspended above the clouds, or have dramatic changes in player stats and empty bank accounts.
The update, released via a quick patch on Wednesday, “implements a new data protocol in GTA Online to improve the security of network sessions and player-to-player messaging,” according to an official post on Rockstar’s support site. Additionally, the update claims to have fixed an issue that allowed players to make changes to other people’s accounts, including GTA$, RP, and stats.
The result of this patch seems to be a flood of returns to the game, some hesitant, some eager. Thankfully, not much substance was released this week, and the regularly updated discounts and bonuses were rather lackluster. Those who stepped back to protect their accounts didn’t miss much.
So this is great news for GTA 5 players, not having much time to deal with this exploit, it appears our accounts and PCs are now safe from malicious actors. Three days of development time isn’t too bad for you, so thanks to the Rockstar team for figuring out a solution so quickly. Console players have been watching it all with morbid curiosity throughout, thankfully they’re completely safe.
Did you get a game pause this week because of this security issue? Are you happy to be back at it? let us know!
