Half-Life fans finally have reason to be happy again: Currently there are all shooter parts of the franchise on Steam for free and in March Half-Life: Alyx is set to begin an extensive VR adventure. But how long will this actually keep you busy and does it even come on time? The makers have now taken a position on this.

With Half-Life: Alyx, Vale didn't just announce a commercial VR shooter in the well-known fr anchise some time ago. VR titles are usually smaller in size than regular games, but Half-Life: Alyx is supposed to be a full-fledged shooter – also in terms of playing time. Valve has emphasized this again in an AMA session via Reddit.
According to this, Half-Life: Alyx should be about the same as the classic Half-Life 2 shooter, as far as the scope of the game is concerned – and that was quite impressive for a shooter. Corresponding conclusions can be drawn from the first test runs, because game testers "needed a similar time" for the new VR shooter as for a run in Half-Life 2. Both titles are "comparable in their entirety".
The ambitions are correspondingly high, but will the development team actually be able to meet the previously announced release period in March 2020? The answer is: Probably yes. In any case, the makers do not assume that a postponement will still be necessary.
The entire game is basically complete and the only thing that is currently being dealt with is fine-tuning and bug fixing. Only the very last scene will undergo even minor changes. The existing bugs raised by game testers should be able to be fixed in the remaining time. However, there is still no very specific date in March.
