A global ranking of PC games with the largest sales in March 2020 contains some titles that are more likely to cause shrugs in Germany. In Asia, especially in China, the mass of players apparently alone ensures that the ruble (or better: the yuan) rolls.
The information is based on a survey by SuperData, a market analysis company that specializes in the video game industry.
Successful, big and … unknown?
Dungeon Fighter Online
The most successful PC game in March is called Dungeon Fighter Online, a Sidescroll controller with Free2Play model and microtransactions, which is distributed by the South Korean developer Neople. The game originally appeared in Korea in 2005 and was later released in Japan, China, Taiwan and North America. A global version was launched on Steam in 2016.
Dungeon Fighter Online uses a colorful anime style and comes entirely in 2D. Check out the trailer to get an overview of the gameplay:
Crossfire
Crossfire is the third most successful PC game in March. This is an obvious one Counter Strike clone, which also relies on Free2Play and Item Shop. Crossfire has had stellar success, particularly in the Chinese market, and has achieved billions in sales. The founder of South Korean developer Smilegate, Kwon Hyuk-bin, became a multi-billionaire through Crossfire.
The similarities between Crossfire and previous versions of Counter-Strike (CS 1.6) immediately catch the eye. Youtuber JackFrags dealt with Crossfire in a video:
Westward Journey Online 2
Another box office hit from Asia is in fourth place: the online role-playing game Westward Journey Online 2, which is published by the Chinese technology group NetEase and was released in 2002. Westward Journey Online 2 also celebrates its great success in China and earns its money from Microtransactions.
However, there are currently some indications in China that the government wants to ban online gaming with the rest of the world. Most recently, the democratic protest movement in the Chinese Hong Kong Special Administrative Region organized itself in an online game:

Nothing new in the West
The other items on the top list are games that most players in Germany should be familiar with. For example, the Free2Play-MOBA League of Legends by Riot Games is in second place and can continue to maintain a large player base even eleven years after its release. And according to the survey, they are still willing to spend a lot of money in the in-game shop.
In fifth place, Doom Eternal is extremely popular, and in a classic way as a full-price game.
We had reported on the success of Doom Eternal: shortly after its release on March 20, the first person shooter had twice overtaken its predecessor Doom from 2016 in terms of sales. According to SuperData, Doom Eternal sold around 3 million copies in the ten days of March alone, which even tripled the number.
