Harry Potter at the Philosopher’s Stone
“You are a wizard Harry!” The cult saga of JK Rowling is shown for the first time in 3D thanks to the adaptation of Harry Potter at the Philosopher’s Stone. First released in 2001 on PS1, PC, the game was ported to PS2, GameCube and Xbox in 2003. Harry Potter at the School of Sorcerers lets us relive the adventure of the young wizard through an action platform game. The title was able to shine in its time by introducing new types of gameplay. The frenzied matches of Quidditch, the casting of spells and the races in the corridors of Hogwarts are all yours. Even if the game developed by Argonauta has aged a bit badly in some aspects, it’s still a good expansion of the universe imagined by JK Rowling.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets follows directly from The Sorcerer’s Stone. The game, still powered by Argonaut, was released simultaneously in 2002 on PC, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, PS1, PS2 and Xbox. We pick up the elements that made the strength of the first opus while refining the formula on many points. Since the game is being developed for the 6th generation of consoles, the improvements can be clearly felt. The 3D models of the characters are much more elaborate, as are the environments, which are larger. We will nevertheless note a lack of coherence at the scenario level, the latter sometimes failing players who have never read the books.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
We continue this selection in order of release of novels and movies! Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third part of the saga. The title begins as in the book. Aboard the Hogwarts Express, you are attacked by a Dementor, the guardian of Azkaban Prison. We follow the main plot of the novel but with a nice twist. In fact, the peculiarity of this episode lies in the fact that you control Harry Potter, but also Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. You can combine the powers of three young wizards to fight enemies or use a specific character’s abilities to advance in the story. Finally, the game offers very varied game phases that make it possible to break a hypothetical monotony.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite
We move on to a mobile opus that has enchanted the public! Posted on June 21, 2019, Harry Potter Wizards Unite is an augmented reality role-playing game available for iOS and Android developed by Niantic Labs. Inspired by Pokemon GO, you play as a new Hogwarts student. You will then be invited to walk in familiar environments since they are fully geolocated thanks to your mobile phone. Creating a profile gives you the opportunity to choose your wand as well as your house. Your goal is to get your hands on “Refinables”, mysterious artifacts that have taken over the world. You must walk to explore a Harry Potter universe more real than life.
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7
It was obvious that this choice would produce a LEGO game! LEGO Harry Potter years 5-7 is a Traveller’s Tale, TT Fusion and Double Eleven production, released in November 2011. And if you’re wondering why so many developers are devoting themselves to the title, that’s because the game was planned for a variety of platforms, from good PC, to Wii, to PSP. LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 is an action-adventure game that lets you relive the end of the iconic saga. The scenario of the last three films and novels gives you the opportunity to embody several characters from the Harry Potter universe, playable both solo and in co-op. The title invites you to explore Hogwarts and its surroundings and discover the mysteries of these iconic places. The LEGO touch obviously adds a little something extra.
