Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead hasn’t been shy about revealing the slew of enhancements included in patch 1.001.100, but it seems like there was one unexpected enhancement that went unnoticed. Well, it was more like a bug, and it sent players flying. Of course, now that Johan Pilestedt has seen it in action, they’re begging him to forget he ever did it.
Yes, it looks like the shield generator, which allows people to be protected from melee damage, might not be the only unexpected feature people can try out or benefit from when taking on the current major order and trying out the latest war bonds.

Over on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, a user named k_Random seemingly released the next evolution of the emote in an effort to avoid the biggest fall damage phenomenon that plagued Helldivers Nation earlier this year. Basically, as they put it: “Send the emote key to get you flying now!”
The video they posted shows a diver jumping off a bridge, and after falling off the side of the bridge, they manage to float horizontally in the air without falling, only to be locked in an expression animation loop that ends up being a series of rapid crouching movements as the movement is forced to start over and over again. The animation actually stops before they fall, so we can’t see how long they fly, but they fly quite far in the approximately 16 seconds of the video.
In the comments, as you’d expect, people were saying “Wow, that’s pretty cool,” with one comment coming from Arrowhead CCO and well-known Redditor Johan Pilestedt. What did he say? Nothing, all we got was a GIF. Specifically, that iconic shot of Homer Simpson sneaking back into the bushes.
Did he react like this because he snuck back into the ether and pretended not to see the bug as an excuse to keep it in the game? Or did he snuck off to tell his team “Hey guys, we gave the divers too much energy, ground them!”?
What we do know so far is that many players are hoping for the former, with one writing: “Don’t miss Pilestedt! Create a new game mode that plays with this mechanic.” Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani is a big fan of the aforementioned life-saving aerial salute, so that seems likely.
Do you hope that Arrowhead will allow people to continue to create things in their own way that the Wright Brothers would be proud of? Let us know below!
