The Hercules Prima E5 is a 25 km/h fast e-bike with a moped look. The manufacturer relies on retro charm, installs a gear hub and a powerful Bosch motor.
Hercules Prima 5S – for millions of 15-year-olds in the 1980s, this meant pure freedom. On the mountain, however, for all people over the 50 kilogram mark, it was usually: support the motor and pedal. In addition to a two-stroke engine, the moped naturally also had pedals with which the engine was “kicked”.
The original mopeds from Hercules are back in fashion. This is probably why the manufacturer is relaunching it in a modern form, as an e-bike. In mid-June, Hercules announced the Prima E5 e-bike, and now the model can be seen for the first time at the Eurobike trade fair in Frankfurt.
The top speed remains at 25 km/h, but the technology has of course evolved. The E5 is powered by a third-generation Bosch Performance Line. The central motor has an output of 250 watts and a maximum torque of 75 Newton meters, supporting speeds of up to 25 km/h.
Instead of a mixture, the pedelec refuels with electricity, which is stored in a battery with a capacity of 545 watt hours (Wh) on the frame. The manufacturer does without a suspension.
The frame should be particularly stable, with a weight of up to 150 kilograms. Hydraulic disc brakes from Tektro with a diameter of 180 millimeters are used so that the potentially high total weight (dead weight still unknown) can be decelerated as appropriate.
