Overwatch 2 has been in turmoil since its disaster release and hasn’t surprised us yet with this recent discovery that allows you to have skins without playing the game.
Overwatch 2 was released not long ago and has been talked about ever since. Chaotic start, sequel that isn’t one, free-to-play model that’s far from to everyone’s taste, etc. It’s that last point that comes back to the charge today, as a clever little guy found an alternative solution, to make money in the game.
Do you have skins for Overwatch 2 without playing the game? It is possible !
Yes, it is actually possible to earn Overwatch 2 coins (in-game money) without playing it, and even faster than playing it.
The trick? Exchange World of Warcraft Tokens for cash on Battle.net and use them to buy Overwatch 2 cosmetics. The option isn’t new, as it’s available in the Myst of Pandaria expansion and allows players to get their hands on months-long subscriptions or items from the Battle.net store simply by playing their MMO at no additional cost.
But even this trick is going to require a lot of time and a little money up front since it’s not free to get your hands on tokens in World of Warcraft. Not only do you have to have a subscription to Blizzard’s famous MMO, but as a bonus, you have to farm in-game to collect gold and exchange it for tokens before exchanging them for real money.
World of Warcraft Gold for Overwatch Cosmetics
Only here, as the player who made the discovery explained on Reddit, it will not be within the reach of everyone and will require investments. Especially since the gold price of tokens can skyrocket (between 150,000 and 350,000 gold coins on average) due to supply and demand, which is a hell of a sum for a Lambda player. Also, the token conversion rate isn’t crazy (1 token is worth a little less than 15 dollars).
But for players with deep pockets in World of Warcraft or those simply playing for gold, this trick allows you to get your hands on Overwatch 2’s cosmetic content faster than playing it by completing the weekly challenges.
As a reminder, this is currently the only method to earn Overwatch Coins and unlock content for free. And that c an take an extremely long time, since you can only earn a little less than one euro per week when most cosmetics cost between 10 and 20 dollars on average.
World of Warcraft has a system to buy a token with in-game gold and convert it to Battle.net Balance ($13 = 1 token). The conversion rate isn’t very high, and unless you’re very good at gold farming or fully invested in the game, it may take a while before you earn enough gold.
But that’s still way, way more than the 90 cents a week Blizzard gives players for their weekly challenges. So I find it hilarious that you can unlock OW 2 skins so much faster by literally playing a different game than by playing Overwatch 2.
For the most impatient, the solution remains to get your hands on the wallet, but the bill can quickly become salty for collectors and that infuriates players. It remains to be seen if Blizzard will introduce new free ways to earn some cosmetics more easily, but this…
