Now that The Witcher 4 has been officially unveiled, CD Projekt RED is revealing exciting new details about this long-awaited sequel starring Ciri.
Since the announcement of The Witcher 4 at the Game Awards 2024 with great fanfare, tongues have finally loosened on CD Projekt RED's side. Sebastian Kalemba, director of the game, and Gosia Mitrega, executive producer, spoke about it in an interview with Skill Up. So we learn a lot about the beginning of this new saga, especially about a lifespan that promises to be truly “enormous”.
A massive The Witcher 4 that prioritizes quality over quantity?
With The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED was able to offer us gripping stories in rich open-world RPGs without overdoing it in terms of the size of the playing field, according to Sebastian Kalemba and Gosia Mitrega, the same pattern in The Witcher 4. The game's map will be roughly the same size as The Witcher 3's, but will not be at a one-to-one scale. We don't want to be slaves to numbers, if you know what we mean ».
In terms of its lifespan, The Witcher 4 would in principle be more or less similar to its predecessor. The number of main and side quests could also be close to what I suggested in the third game. “ But rest assured, the game will be massive compared to anything we have done before, as will the ambitions of the entire team. Above all, we want to offer a super compelling experience. With this in mind, we want to prioritize quality over quantity. ».
Ultimately, The Witcher 4 should, in principle, “ better, more ambitious and more beautiful » than its famous eldest, but with a relatively similar lifespan to the latter. Which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, as The Witcher 3 already takes several dozen hours to fully cover. However, we still have to be patient to see whether CD Projekt will offer us a sequel that does justice to the masterpiece and its promising ambitions. The Witcher 4 actually went into full production last month and is therefore unlikely to appear on PC and consoles for a few years.
