It does seem likely that the fantasy game IO Interactive is working on will be an Xbox console exclusive.
This is based on submitted documents In the trial of the Federal Trade Commission v. Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. One of the documents concerns a studio or company that the Xbox maker is considering acquiring.
The list includes Hitman studios, Niantic, Hades studio Supergiant Games, Bungie, and even SEGA (a company it wanted to buy in 2013).
In another document, IO Interactive is listed as developing a game called “Project Dragon,” and an RPG shooter for PC and Xbox Series X/S. The document also states that the studio is working with Xbox Game Studios on the game, suggesting that the game will be published by Microsoft.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that IOI’s upcoming title is an Xbox console exclusive. In 2021, a report from Windows Central claimed that the studio was working on a fantasy game to be published by Microsoft for the Xbox Series X/S.
Fast forward to February 2023, and IO Interactive announced that the upcoming RPG Project Fantasy is currently in development. While it doesn’t use the titles listed in Microsoft’s documentation, it’s safe to say that IO isn’t working on two separate fantasy RPGs that are the same game. The company is also busy with Hitman 3 and developing a Bond game, which it announced will launch in 2020.
