Hogwarts Legacy should offer you a lot of freedom. Eventually you’ll be accepted into the school of witchcraft and wizardry and you’re supposed to really get lost in the mood. However, a popular feature from other role-playing games is missing: the title will not offer you romances with other students.
In a few days it’s finally time, from February 10, 2023 you can attend magic school in Hogwarts Legacy. You create your own character and the developers of Avalanche promise even more freedom. After all, the dream of many Harry Potter fans comes true with the game and they should be offered as many options as possible. However, a feature of modern role-playing games is missing, as an interview with GamePro now shows.

During the conversation, Narrative Lead Moira Squier and Game Designer Kelly Murphy indicated that romances with other students will not be possible. This may come as a surprise, but Squier has a good explanation up its sleeve: “We made a conscious decision not to do it. There is no way to do it well, after all you are the protagonist in the game and you can be anyone. We want that you can be whoever you want. […] That would [mit Romanzen] too difficult to manage.”
Another point that was considered, Murphy elaborates, “That and the fact that you’re basically playing a 15-year-old kid. There’s stuff that we just didn’t want to explore thematically. But you can bond with characters and they get to know each other and make decisions within this friendship.”
The two developers also state that there will definitely be romance in the world of Hogwarts Legacy. Some characters and classmates talk about their respective partners, including queer relationships. The book author JK Rowling should hardly like that. This had been noticed several times in the past through transphobic statements. Even if there are numerous calls to boycott the game, the success remains unbroken.
