News JVTech Hogwarts Legacy: Which setting to choose between Performance, Fidelity, Balance or HFR on PS5 and Xbox Series?

If many players have been discovering Hogwarts Legacy for a few days already, Warner’s game will officially be released on February 10th, 2023. Whether you play on PS5 or Xbox Series, Hogwarts Legacy has many display modes, but then what does it need? ?
Hogwarts Legacy Hogwarts Legacy which mode on PS5 and Xbox Series?
Hogwarts Legacy: The Legacy of Hogwarts made its debut on February 7th for those who pre-ordered the deluxe version of the game. For players who are a bit more patient, the new adventure in the Harry Potter universe will be available from February 10th.
We will take a closer look at the console versions of Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy. In total, Hogwarts offers no less than 5 different modes available in the game settings.
- Fidelity (for optimal 4K resolution and enhanced graphics)
- Fidelity with Launch of Light (Enhanced lighting effects and very good graphics rendering)
- Performance (To achieve optimal fluidity)
- Balanced (no ray tracing, but a perfect balance between fluidity and quality)
- HFR performance (extreme fluidity at the expense of visual quality)
Attention ! Depending on the technology of your TV, you may not necessarily see all 5 options!
In fact, HFR and Balanced are only possible for 4K 120Hz TVs with an HDMI 2.1 port. In itself, Hogwarts Legacy is a flagship game for this generation of consoles, the graphics are absolutely beautiful and it is better to prefer impeccable visual quality than absolute fluidity.
If the two Loyalty modes try to exploit all of the title’s visual qualities, the Performance and HFR modes primarily want to pull fluidity from above. In video games, this is called “FPS” for Frame Per Second and indicates how many frames are displayed on the screen in one second.
In the cinema, the frame rate is often limited to 24 fps. But for a video game where the action taking place needs to be perfectly synchronized with the controller, the PS5 and Xbox series consoles aim for 60fps or even more in certain games.
What is the optimal configuration to play Hogwarts Legacy on console?
For once, the contribution of ray tracing doesn’t improve things much, except in some very specific places with slightly more detailed shadow effects in Hogwarts. Specifically, I advise you not to use Loyalty mode with ray tracing as the fluidity is lacking and you risk encountering large framerate drops in certain spots.
The same goes for the HFR, which will greatly increase your fluidity… In exchange for a lower visual quality, which would be a shame for a game of such beauty.
Here’s what the graphics modes look like, sorted from the most beautiful (with a lower number of frames per second) to the least beautiful (but very smooth with a high number of frames per second):
- Fidelity with Lightcast (4K with ray tracing for 30 fps)
- Fidelity (4K without ray tracing with target 30 fps)
- Balanced (4K with target 40 fps – option only visible in HDMI 2.1)
- Performance (1080p for 60 fps)
- HFR performance (1080p with target 120 fps – option only visible in HDMI 2.1)
You can experiment with each mode to see which works best for you. For our part, we recommend the simple “Loyalty” mode without light scattering. It brings you very good visual quality with correct fluidity and image stability.
Clearly, even if you have a powerful TV, there’s no point in looking for a very high frame rate for a game of this nature. Ditto for the ray tracing feature, which is very (very) discreet and won’t show you anything crazy on screen.
To optimize your graphics options, here are some more tips in settings:
- Maximum Frame Rate Limit: Set to “disabled” to temporarily have a higher frame rate, if you want a stable frame rate that never exceeds a certain threshold, enable the option.
- Motion Blur: Set “disabled” if you are playing less than 2 meters from your screen, otherwise leave it “enabled”.
- Depth of field : Set to Enabled (blur effect on horizon) for better immersion.
- Chromatic aberration: Set to “On” for better lighting effects.
- film grain: set to Disabled to preserve their sharpness. If you like the “grainy” side of the image a bit like in the Harry Potter movies, you can leave it enabled.
