We are truly in the age of video game movies. Sure, superhero movies still exist, but after Avengers: Endgame it became increasingly clear that there are plenty of great stories to be mined in the world of video games. We’ve got the biggest hits for you, like the upcoming quirky Knuckles series and the third Sonic movie, as well as the star-studded Minecraft movie. Even indie games are starting to get attention now, with horror fishing game Dredge announced to be getting a live-action adaptation earlier this month. However, the latest independent film announced yesterday will be released yesterday: El Paso, Elsewhere .

You may not have heard of El Paso before, anywhere else, but you’re sure to find something familiar there. Released in 2021, this third-person shooter is heavily inspired by Max Payne and features slow-motion bullet time. What makes it stand out is that you have to kill your ex-girlfriend, who also happens to be the lord of vampires. It’s a very powerful concept, and Variety reports that its live-action adaptation sounds like it’s off to a good start. “Atlanta,” “Sorry to Bother You” and “Get Out” star LaKeith Stanfield is apparently joining forces with Lorenzo di Bonaventura’s Di Bonaventura Films (“Transformers” ” and the production company of the “G.I. Joe” movie) are in talks to join the project.
The director doesn’t seem to be on board yet, but with a game as stylish as El Paso and Elsewhere already, you can only hope they can find someone with a little experience (and know a good director of photography) as well ). The movie also doesn’t have a release date, but at the time of writing, the original game is available on Steam, so you can give it a try first.
