At the end of the 9th episode of “House of the Dragon” we see a house burning down on the streets of Flohloch. This is the house of the former prostitute Mysaria, who was once Daemon Targaryen’s lover.
The attack was commissioned by Larys Kraft and Alicent Hohenturm to silence the well-informed woman. She was Otto Hightower’s informant when it came to the whereabouts of Prince Aegon II Targaryen.
Larys eliminates his competition
For an unusual price, Larys tells Alicent who gave her father Otto the information about Aegon’s whereabouts. Although Alicent does not issue an order to have Mysaria killed, a hint is enough for Larys to carry out his dirty business.
There is also a chance that Otto Hightower remembers Mysaria’s face, as she was the one who went to Dragonstone with Daemon Targaryen and stole a dragon egg. This connection could have been a thorn in Otto’s eyes. But the assassin is probably really Larys.
The White Worm, as the young woman is called outside, is well connected in the kingdom and is therefore a threat to the Green Party’s plans. She was one of the few who knew before the public announcement that Viserys I Targaryen had died.
For this reason, she brought Aegon II into safe custody in order to have leverage against the royal family.
She is acting in her own interest and at this point without a client. She is interested in building up power in Flohloch in order to bring about an end to Kinder’s fighting. In return, she would reveal to the Hand of the King and his guards where the Targaryen prince is.
What really happened to Mysaria?
Through the book Fire and Blood by George RR Martin, we know that Mysaria survived the flames. The White Worm will definitely still play a very important role in the “Dance of the Dragons”. The former prostitute will work with Daemon again and will even be named Master of the Whisperers by Rhaenyra Targaryen.
Mysaria plays the most significant role in the blood and cheese assassination attempt carried out against Queen Heleana Targaryen. After the murder of Lucerys Velaryon by her brother Aemond Targaryen, Rhaenyra seeks revenge. Her husband then instructs Mysaria to find men to look after the royal couple.
The White Worm then sends the two villains Cheese and Blood, who sneak into the Red Keep. They overwhelm the royal family and kill Aegon II’s heir to the throne, Jaehaerys Targaryen. After this attack, Mysaria continues her work for Rhaenyra and Daemon.
Since it’s unlikely that the series will introduce a new character for this event, it’s very likely that the White Worm will survive the flames.
Lary’s power against Mysaria
Lary’s power and Mysaria from “House of the Dragon” have a strong parallel to the Lords Varys and Petyr Baelish from “Game of Thrones”. They also lived in the shadows and spied for their own well-being.
But unlike the two men, Larys and Mysaria have never met before. They have no relationship with each other, so they get their information from completely different sources. But what is crucial is that Larys knows about the White Worm’s espionage network and knows its sources, because these also extend beyond the Red Keep.
This makes it quite possible that Mysaria found out as early as possible that Alicent was planning to eliminate the young woman. If she actually survived the fire, then this would be a good way to create conflict between the two Whisperers. Both have different approaches and both fight for a different side.
How does Mysaria really die?
In the books, Mysaria survives until the end of “Dance of the Dragons”. She serves the blacks throughout the war. Mysaria accompanies Rhaenyra when she manages to take King’s Landing. But the Targaryen queen can only rule for a short time. When she has to flee the city, Mysaria is captured.
The White Worm is driven naked through the streets of the city and tortured with lashes. If she manages to get from the Red Keep to the Gate of the Gods, then she should be granted freedom. But halfway through, Mysaria dies.
Since “House of the Dragon” has so far rewritten some events from “Fire and Blood”, Mysaria could also have a different ending. However, the White Worm still has a lot of time until that happens.
