With the 6th episode “House of the Dragon” we make another jump in time and say goodbye to Milly Alcock as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Emily Carey as Alicent Hohenturm. Taking their places are older actresses Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra) and Olivia Cooke (Alicent). Because the new episode takes place about 10 years in the future.
From here on, the plot will pick up significant momentum, steadily pushing the story toward the “Dance of the Dragons,” the civil war that nearly wiped out House Targaryen. Rhaenyra is still the heiress to the Iron Throne and will soon have to accept her reign, for her father Viserys I appears to be very ill.
Just like her, however, her brother Aegon II has grown and is now a handsome young man who wants to challenge his sister for the crown. It not only learns how to use a sword from its teacher, but also how to tame its dragon properly.
So the Westeros we’ve gotten to know over the past five episodes will have changed a lot. Rhaenyra becomes a mother, Alicent’s children grow taller, Daemon remarries, and the king is a shadow of himself.
The sixth episode starts on September 26th on Sky Atlantic on pay TV and on Wow in the stream. Then we learn how Rhaenyra and the other Targaryens fared in the years following Episode 5’s bloody wedding.
