While The Last of Us series is already stealing the show from the HBO catalog in 2023 (see our recap on Episode 6), last year all eyes were on House of The Dragon… At the same time, following the success of Game of Thrones between 2011 and 2019, how could it have been otherwise?
A big box for HBO
If the debates are undoubtedly still melting at certain details | Choice of script, this new show set in George RR Martin’s universe was a full house for the American production house… With close to 10 million viewers for the first episode, House of the Dragon signs best launch for a series to air on HBO Max | the proprietary chain in the United States.
As a reminder, House of the Dragon takes us 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when House Targaryen was at the height of its power on the continent of Westeros. However, internal disagreements will drive it to its loss. Family gatherings are basically… lively.
Scenes cut during editing
Would you like to know more about Rhaenyra, Daemon, Alicent and the others? The media fan side brings back sequences from House of the Dragon that were cut during editing… The first concerns King Viserys and his daughter Rhaenrya, who were chosen as heirs at the expense of the legitimate successor, Daemon. “Viserys talks to Daemon about the prophecy, but sees that his boisterous brother is not particularly receptive,” we can learn. “This is another reason Viserys chose Rhaenrya as his heir.”
The other notable scene concerns the relationship between Rhaenrya and Alicent. This is the heart of House of the Dragon in many ways. In a deleted scene from Episode 2 – in which the young woman plans to marry King Viserys, her friend’s father – the heiress helps Alicent dress… As FanSided points out, it could have helped to better understand the relationship of the two characters. To find out more, we’ll have to wait for season 2 – filming begins on March 3rd.
