For many fans of the series, destruction and Battlefield now belong together: In Battlefield 1 we were able to with our Tanks simply through barns rustle and leave a trail of devastation, in Bad Company 2 even razing multi-story buildings (with enough explosives) to the ground. But what about in Battlefield 2042?
Unfortunately, the beta did not provide much information about this question, because there were only a few buildings on the Orbital map. Rockets or tank shells could blow holes in the smaller houses, but we couldn’t really get a picture of their destructibility. Now turns on Community Manager Kevin Johnson entered and explained on Twitter
On most maps you can have a Destruction level on par with Battlefield 5 expect. Some cards have whole [zerstörbare] Areas like the village in the south of the Hourglass map that can be completely destroyed. Others are more like what you can see in the trailer. And then there are those bombastic ones [Levolution-] Moments like the rocket on orbital.
Johnson is referring to the trailer that introduces the maps Renewal, Breakaway and Discarded. There you can see, for example, how the glass roof of a house breaks, corrugated iron huts are smashed and gas tanks blow up when shot at:

How was it back then in BF5?
Johnson’s comparison with Battlefield 5, however, should give fans hope for destructible buildings. It is true that by far not every building could be torched down to its foundation walls. But especially after intense fighting, there was often not much left than a smoking skeleton.
Explosions left quite realistic traces in many parts of the game world. In case you don’t really have it in mind: This Youtube video shows the level of detail of the destruction in BF5:

But one thing is also certain: We will certainly not experience destruction like in Bad Company 2 in the new Battlefield. Instead, 2042 will start again more intensively scripted Levolution Momentsin which major events reshape the map. Fans already know this from BF4 with the falling skyscraper on Siege of Shanghai and similar events.
On top of that, Battlefield 2042 packs storm disasters such as tornados or sandstorms. But GameStar editor Dimi senses that there are big problems for the fun of the game!
