Indie hit Dead Cells is often mentioned when it comes to the best small games on Steam. After all, it can boast of around 140,000 positive user reviews, which speaks for one of the best roguelikes of recent years. In the GameStar test, Dead Cells scored a whopping 80 points. The game has made a name for itself with its extremely fast pace and action-packed battles. The pixelated, but very stylish look rounds off the h armonious overall picture wonderfully.
During the Game Awards 2023, the studio behind Dead Cells finally announced a quasi-successor. No, not Dead Cells 2, but Windblown. A completely new roguelike in a new world and with a new look. However, little has changed in spirit regarding the core strengths of its predecessor.

Windblown will be a new high-speed roguelike from the Dead Cells developers
This is Windblown
As with Dead Cells, Windblown is intended to offer extremely fast battles in which you can avoid your opponents’ attacks thanks to lightning-fast dashes and then strike back effectively. This time you can jump in all possible directions because Windblown is a 3D game that uses an isometric camera perspective.
In terms of content, you awaken in the role of a so-called leaper on an ark in the middle of a huge vortex. Leapers are small, anthropomorphic animals such as lizards, bats or axolotls. That sounds cute and the world is as colorful as it is comic-like, but at least judging by the first trailer it’s still pretty bloody.
Especially since dying plays a crucial role, as in many roguelikes. In order to defeat the powerful, robot-like bosses and their henchmen, you have to collect the memories of your previous lives and can use them to become increasingly stronger or to spontaneously change your build.
So be prepared for a lot of deaths and dangerous opponents. If it’s too difficult, you can ask up to three friends for help and then go in co-op.
The new game doesn’t have a release date yet, but it should go into early access in 2024.
