Actually, Ubisoft wanted to get involved in the Battle Royale circus with Hyper Scape and kill big names like PUBG, Fortnite, CoD: Warzone or Apex Legends. However, that went pretty badly and soon it will be over.
That didn’t take long. Just a year and a half after the launch of Hyper Scape in August 2020, Ubisoft is pulling the plug on the free-to-play battle royale. As can be read on the Ubisoft website, the publisher has decided to put an end to the misery and shut down the servers on April 28, 2022.
They had set out to create a fast-paced, vertical, close-quarter shooter experience, but would now learn lessons for future projects. The message is supplemented by thanks and warm words to the community.
Just two months after its release, Ubisoft had to acknowledge that the game had fallen far short of expectations. A few updates were made, but they didn’t change the lack of interest from players. Players and critics mainly complained about the meager gunplay, but also about the player characters. During the beta, interest was still quite high, especially on Twitch, the game was a lot to see. But in the end it wasn’t enough.
