Sonic Frontier superior change is quite an experience. On the most powerful hardware (PC, PS5, Series X), Blue Blur’s latest creation is a very pleasing game. It’s problematic, but not ugly. You don’t walk past it with raised eyebrows, mouth open, staring at Sonic’s pants dropping to his ankles.only beautiful. On the Switch, Sonic’s pants didn’t fall off; they were broken and haphazardly thrown back at the hedgehog. It’s the same core experience, but it’s cut so little that even Tiger Woods in his prime would struggle to make birdies.
To be fair, the stage level is decent for Sonic Frontiers on Switch – although it’s still a long way from ideal in terms of frame rates. These rollercoaster-like runs are comparable to other console versions in a “don’t want to wear my glasses” way. You could say it’s a little rough, but it gets through. Sadly, where things start to unravel is the open world region. Are these areas unpleasant on the eyes, my word – no amount of squinting can save it.
Here is a screenshot. I didn’t do it on purpose. I’m just playing the game and this is what I’m facing:
Here is another one:
I’ve seen a lot of people make the Switch version of Sonic Frontiers as a very good looking version of the game on PS5/Series X. Honestly, I’m confused by this. Maybe there is an element to this thing that you develop feelings for your captive. It sometimes feels like Sonic fans are being held hostage by mediocre Sonic games on beige plates (with some spilled food coloring) at a mediocre children’s party, so maybe that’s the explanation. Or maybe people are just keen to enjoy what they’ve spent a lot of money on.
Or maybe people’s standards are lower than mine – although I’ve said before that I think most modern games look great. I chalk it up to Sonic the Hedgehog Syndrome: Actually, you think bad things are good things.
I totally understand that a lot of Sonic fans (poor people) have no choice but to play games on the Switch. I’m never going to point this rant at consumers, but I do wonder what the route is to bring games to the Switch – it’s a handheld that’s way behind the times, and I’ve always felt bad about it running current games. surprise. People think the Xbox Series S is holding back game development!
Still, the fact that the game will run entirely on older hardware shouldn’t be a selling point. When a game’s visuals are so compromised, it’s a distraction from the gameplay, and maybe the game shouldn’t be offered to users of that system.
I’m sure someone will comment or message me on the confusing blue tick platform soon: “I played on Switch, got all the emeralds, played fast, and it was awesome .” I feel happy for you. As someone who really appreciates the visual aspects of video games, I just don’t want to play a game that looks like it’s being played through the world’s first emulation tool before it just works.
It was a bit of a grumpy rant, but it was born out of frustration. The Switch has some gorgeous games that, unsurprisingly, have been developed throughout the game front and center of hardware constraints. This article may fall on deaf ears, but expect better. Don’t buy Sonic Frontiers on Switch if you can.
