News culture “I was too old” Brad Pitt turned down this role with Leonardo DiCaprio: We had to wait 13 years to see them together on screen
Brad Pitt was a producer of this legendary film by Martin Scorsese, but he could have also starred in it one day.
Too old for the role?
You may not have known this, but Brad Pitt could have played an iconic role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in one of Scorsese’s films if he hadn’t felt too old. We’re talking about the feature film The Departed, a 2006 police thriller that was well received by both the press and the audience; “The Departed is a thoroughly gripping gangster drama with the authenticity and morality you would expect from Martin Scorsese.”
Brad Pitt was originally supposed to take on the role of Colin Sullivan, ultimately played by Matt Damon opposite the character Billy Costigan, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Problem: The age difference between the two actors has become too annoying an issue. “I thought I was too old for that.the star actor simply explained before adding: “When Scorsese got involved, I thought it would be better if it were young men just coming into life, guys coming out of the academy, guys who were hungry.. On the other hand, Pitt did not get very far as he was still involved as a producer of the film. Moreover, The Departed would probably never have seen the light of day without the American star, as it was she who originally bought the rights to Infernal Affairs and planned to star in the American adaptation.
Still a 5-star cast
If you are interested in the film, note that it is currently available on the Max and Prime Video platforms. The setting is Boston, a city of all dangers. A young man from the underworld is recruited by the police to infiltrate the gang of Frank Costello, a ruthless godfather. At the same time, a gang member poses as a police officer to protect his boss. The two men, trapped in their double lives, find themselves in a race against time, with betrayal lurking around every corner. The cast does not include Brad Pitt, but includes Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson and Ray Winstone, among others.
