Hello readers. We’ve been wanting to make a podcast on iGamesNews for a long time, but for various reasons nothing has come of it. That has now changed. iGamesNews’s The Best Games Ever Podcast is here and definitely has at least two episodes (hopefully more) because we already have two.
“What’s this new podcast about?” you ask, often with childlike joy when you discover a new M&M or ice cream version of your favorite childhood sweet tooth. Well, it’s simple, really. Every week the three of us have to present our selection of the best games that meet certain criteria. Our host/judge Jim Trinca will then decide who made the best case and announce the winner.
We will never do something as simple as “best horror game” or “best PS2 game”. That’s not what this show is about. We’re trying to do something different, and by chance it’s more fun than a group of us sitting around and chatting. Every week we have specific topics to discuss, and that’s it. There may be some oddly hilarious episodes (I’m in it after all), but the intent is to be more of a group show.
We’re also trying to offer a show that’s about 30 minutes long. Enough to make you feel like you’re part of something, but not so long that you need a week’s commute/park walk to complete an episode. Hopefully this is something you can join.
now it’s right. Check out iGamesNews’s The Best Games Ever Podcast on Apple Podcasts and subscribe. Or listen on Spotify. It’s even on YouTube if that’s your thing. No doubt we’ll be adding more options soon, probably when you tell us to “keep up with the times and add it to BloopBloop” or something.
We’ve got some details on the show’s content below, so if you want to avoid spoilers, don’t scroll to check out this posed guy (friends who support iGamesNews, People Make Games, on Patreon).
The best game of horses with names
This is the subject of the first episode of iGamesNews’s Best Gaming Podcast Ever. Here’s a rundown of who chose what.
Tom – Shadow of the Colossus
This one is an obvious and unquestionable reader/listener favorite. Shadow of the Colossus is an excellent game, considered by many to be a true classic. It has a horse named Agro. Team Ico’s game is so good, it’s been remastered/remastered twice, so it’s on PS2, PS3, and PS4. Do you agree with Tom?
Dolani – Ring of Eldon
Dorrani tried something newer with Elden Ring. Released earlier in 2022, Elden Ring is already considered a classic in the open world genre, offering intense and challenging combat as well as a delightful world. The horse in the Elden Ring is named Torrent and, among other talents, has a pretty incredible double jump. What do you think? Is the Ring of Eldon better than Shadow of the Colossus or is it too early to say?
Alex – Final Furlong
Out of nowhere, Alex made this gem of an arcade game. Final Furlong sums up what arcade games can offer that consoles and PCs can’t: gigantic peripherals. In this case, you have to ride a giant plastic horse. Alex insists it’s the best game for named horses, but does one of the many named racehorses really count? His favorite is the Miracle Thunder.
Let us know in the comments below which game you’d pick and which of the three you think you should win. If you like the podcast, please subscribe and leave a comment and tell all your friends who can tell all their friends.
Check back in a week for the best games no one cares about.
If you want more podcasts, you can probably do worse than check out our friends who have an electronic wireless show at Rock Paper Shotgun. Eurogamer has two shows (greedy!), Digital Foundry has DF Direct, Dicebreaker covers the world of tabletop gaming, and External Xbox has many with the Oxventure – A Dungeons & Dragons Podcast.
