Baldur’s Gate 3 and Game of Thrones have one thing in common: There is an Iron Throne in both, and in each case it causes a lot of headaches. Well, actually the two fantasy worlds have even more in common, but that’s not the point here.
This is about the infamous Iron Throne in the third act of the exceptional role play. If you are already this far, you will know that the rescue mission in this prison can be quite challenging. After all, you have to free tons of prisoners.
In a currently hotly debated Reddit thread, many community members are discussing how they were able to complete this task perfectly

Depending on the level of difficulty you have five or eight laps timeto free all the prisoners in the underwater prison and bring them to the submarine with which you can escape the prison. A total of thirteen prisoner gnomes are waiting to be freed, as well as two very special prisoners.
You can meet Wyll’s kidnapped father Ulder Ravengard here, but in certain circumstances you can also meet the friendly mind flayer Omeluum. Important: Omeluum will only be held captive here if you do not give the Githyanki egg to Lady Esther.
Here’s a summary of some of the advice making the rounds in the comments on Reddit:
- Omeluum’s ability:
- Hast: This spell is extremely important for moving quickly. After all, it massively increases the speed of movement. But be careful! Once the effect is over, you are unable to act for one round. There are also potions that speed you up.
- Teleportpfeile: There are 3 arrows in Baldur’s Gate that you use to teleport to the place you shoot. Very useful for moving a few meters further using an attack action.
- Lap mode: One user advises activating round mode and applying all buffs before entering the prison. This ensures that you get the most out of the duration without wasting a turn on the timer.
- Shoot levers: All cells can be opened using levers on the wall. You can also activate these levers by shooting them! So all it takes is an arrow or a damaging spell to open cells from a distance. Elementals can even operate several levers at once.
- Companions are expendable: Sounds harsh, but your companions don’t have to survive the action! It is enough for a single playable character to reach the submarine. All others can be revived at Lazarus. Of course, this doesn’t apply to prisoners.
There are certainly tons of other strategies out there helping with the prison break. For example, a lot depends on certain classes, so rogues and monks are generally much faster than the rest. If you also have illithid powers, you may even be able to fly through the corridors.
