Epic has announced that it has raised more than $50 million through Fortnite to provide humanitarian relief to Ukraine as part of its commitment to support the country during the Russian invasion. The fundraising effort has only been in the works for three days, and all the proceeds between now and April 3 add to this huge sum.
Not only do we want to congratulate Epic Games on this incredible move that will undoubtedly save lives in Ukraine – and to be clear, they absolutely deserve it – we think we should take the time to share this amount with the world Compare the amounts donated by countries to humanitarian efforts to help understand how this will impact civilians in need.
Australia – $50 million
This great country has made significant efforts in supporting the people of Ukraine. In addition to $96 million in military funding, the country has provided more than $50 million in humanitarian aid. This means that, for now, any humanitarian aid a person might get in Ukraine right now could be paid for by the Australian people, just like the residents of Fortnite.
Finland – $86 million
Finland has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine when it comes to humanitarian aid, having pledged an additional 10 million dollars to the country in response to recent events. Since 2014, the country has donated a total of 86 million dollars – no expense! Fortnite players have almost reached half that number in just three days — something to be proud of.
US$200 million in Japan
The Japanese government promises $200 million Provide financial assistance to Ukraine and provide tents, food, generators and other useful equipment to help those in need in Ukraine. When you consider that Japan is the country with the third highest GDP in 2020, you should consider how impressive it is to raise $50 million in such a short period of time.
These are just three of the many countries that have supported Ukraine during the current crisis. Raising money for a cause like this is certainly not competition, and any amount donated by any country is an act of kindness. By comparing the numbers presented through Fortnite with the contributions of these countries, it becomes clearer how good the rescue efforts are. Hopefully they can hit $100 million by April 3rd!
