Soulslikes live off the rare save points that are spread around the world. But Lords of the Fallen wants to go in a different direction. Instead of fighting your way to the Resting Places, you should go here craft your own Bonfire

This is how save points are supposed to work
In an interview with PC Gamer the creative director Cezar Virtosu revealed the principle of the new checkpoints. In order for the Soulslike to maintain a hard level of difficulty, you can of course not save your game every two meters. In order for you to be able to craft a save point like this, you need materials – and you won’t find them on every street corner. So whether you want to spend your resources on a checkpoint, you should think twice.
But that’s not the only challenge: Your save points are not indestructible – in fact, they are a popular target for enemies. If the checkpoint is gone, your save is gone too. So you should look for a quiet place, scout for opponents extensively and only then put together your checkpoint when nobody is around.
DIY save points in Dark Souls 3?
A similar memory principle was originally also used for Dark Souls 3 worked as the Souls player Lance McDonald found out in 2018. Here, however, the self-made bonfires were not crafted from classic resources, but from the corpses of the opponents.
You could then grab the defeated opponents, drag them to your desired location and make a nice, warm fire out of them. Maybe this kind of save system was too easy for FromSoftware after all and the feature was therefore removed from the final game.
