Path tracing for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is here – and causes mixed feelings. (Image source: Bethesda)
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle started in Early Access on December 6th – the adventure has now been officially released. As a result, there is also this first update to the gamewhich comes with two important innovations:
- The controversial Denuvo copy protection is no longer available from today.
- Full ray tracing aka path tracing is available.
After the steep system requirements and initial performance checks for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle without Path tracing accordingly raises the question of how the game from MachineGames would deal with the full ray tracing program.
The bad news: If your Nvidia graphics card has less than 12 GB of video memory, you won't be able to access path tracing at all. AMD GPUs don't get the capabilities at all regardless of the available VRAM. The following graphics cards are theoretically suitable for the use of full ray tracing in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle:
- RTX 3060 in the 12 GB version, RTX 3080 (Ti), RTX 3090
- RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB and higher

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the sequel we always wanted!
The performance that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle can deliver with these requirements remains questionable. With colleagues from PC Games Hardware For example, all Nvidia graphics cards with less than 16 GB of VRAM are currently at risk of crashing; full-fledged tests are still in progress.
Mixed feelings about the path tracing update can also be found on Reddit. While owners of an RTX 4090 in particular are happy about good FPS numbers and beautiful images, there are complaints about several configurations.

An RTX 3080 Ti with 12 GB of video memory therefore achieves this an average of just 17 FPS with path tracing switched on including DLSS quality preset in 1440p resolution.
According to another user, an RTX 4070 Super also achieves around 20 frames per second with such settings.

According to the comments, a possible fix is ASwitching off “low latency mode” which you can find in the Nvidia control panel under “Manage 3D settings”.
Have you activated path tracing in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle? What is the performance like in your configuration and did switching off the low latency mode lead to an improvement? Let us know in the comments!
