iOS 18.4 is there: How your Apple Intelligence activates in Germany

Apple has released the beta of iOS 18.4. You can finally test the new Apple Intelligence functions.

For a long time there were guesswork and speculation when Apple finally brings the in -house Ki “Apple Intelligence” to Germany. Officially Apple now April announced as a release period, but you can already try all new functions – provided you meet these requirements.

Apple Intelligence has finally arrived in Germany with the first iOS 18.4 beta. However, initially only for testers of the public beta version. If you do not take part in the beta program, you will only get the big update in April. In order to discover the new Apple Intelligence features, you generally need the right iPhone.

Beta testers become

Apple Intelligence is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and on iPhone 16 models, including the new iPhone 16E. With iOS 18.4, users of older devices, on the other hand, only receive minor improvements.

These features await you

The smaller innovations include the integration of vacuum robots into the home app. In addition, new emojis are added, including a harp, a shovel, a fingerprint and others. The following innovations, on the other hand, are based on Apple Intelligence:

Mails-App

Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated into the mail app. In addition, the user interface is redesigned and the AI ​​automatically sorts your emails into certain categories:

• Primary for important news.
• Transactions for orders and invoices.
• Updates for newsletter and notifications.
• Advertising For offers and advertising emails.

This categorization is activated by default, but can be switched to a chronological view in the settings. The AI ​​can also summarize long or complex emails and suggest suitable answers. The search function is also improved by AI support.

Writing tools

A new writing tool allows you to adapt the style of a text, for example to make it friendlier or more professional. The Rewrite function goes even further and allows texts to be re -shaped as desired – for example, you could say: “Make a poem from the text”. This function is integrated directly in the iOS keyboard, so that you can also adapt WhatsApp messages directly in the app.

Image Playground

The new “Image Playground” app enables you to create pictures based on your ideas. Similar to chatt, it is sufficient to enter a text, and the app generates suitable images in animation or illustration style – realistic representations are not possible.

There are predefined categories such as topics, places or costumes for inspiration. You also have the option of transforming photos from your gallery or simple sketches from the note app into AI works of art.

Genmoji

Forget the classic emojis! Because with Apple Intelligence you can create your own “genemojis”. Simply describe your idea or upload a selfie, and the AI ​​creates an individual picture in emoji style. The best thing about it is that genemojis are displayed correctly everywhere, where Rich-Text (RTI) is supported-so Android users can also receive and view the gene mogyis.

In our test, the generation of genemojis did not always work reliably. Problems occurred in particular in WhatsApp – the function opened briefly, but then broke off again. In contrast, everything went perfectly in the note app. It is also somewhat disturbing that a photo of a person is requested from facial emojis. However, you cannot upload any image here, but only choose from people already recognized in your gallery.

Visual Intelligence

A particularly practical feature for everyday life is the visual intelligence. You can simply keep your camera on public buildings such as restaurants and information is immediately displayed during opening times, ratings or on popular dishes.

The tool can also read texts, recognize phone numbers and addresses and add them directly to your contacts. In addition, the AI ​​can copy, summarize or scan products from pictures and find out where they are available. You can use the function button or the camera button from the iPhone 16. If you want, you also have the option of adding a Toggle in the control center.

Siri

Siri in particular is said to be significantly more smarter through Apple Intelligence. But some of the planned features that were supposed to come with iOS 18.4 have moved Apple further back. This includes, for example, the ability to understand and remember personal contexts. So it should actually be possible to say Siri: “Show me the last picture that Anna sent me.” Understanding of screen minting was also postponed to a later update.

For this, Apple has improved Siri's context processing. The assistant can now include older questions in answers, so you don't have to repeat yourself constantly. If you ask several questions in a row, the conversation remains more fluid and more natural. In addition, Siri remembers your preferences and can react specifically to commands such as “Game my favorite podcast”.

Another new feature: Siri can now also be controlled by text. To activate the function, a double tip on the bottom of the screen is sufficient. This is particularly practical if you want to use Siri in public.

However, it is unclear whether these functions will be available in April. Apple speaks in its press release that Apple Intelligence “will receive further features in the coming months, including more options for Siri”. That sounds more like we still have to wait for one or the other Siri renewal.

Apple Intelligence on Mac and iPad

If you don't have a suitable iPhone to try the AI, you can also access most features with an iPad or MacBook. A prerequisite for participation in the developer beta of Ipados 18.4 and MacOS Sequoia 15.4. There are also certain hardware requirements here. Owners of an iPad Pro should have no problems. The AI ​​also runs on the iPad Air from the 4th generation, the standard IPAD from the 9th generation and the iPad mini from the 6th generation. In addition, all Macs that have at least one M1 chip benefit from the AI ​​functions.

Furthermore, Apple Intelligence will also be brought to the Apple Vision Pro with Visionos 2.4 from April. At first, however, only in English. According to Apple, users should be able to communicate in a completely new way.
