sony has officially announced its July 2022 PlayStation Plus lineup – This is a good one. As is now standard on the PS Plus lineup, the actual roster of games leaked a while back and was lined up before the official PlayStation announcement.
Either way, now that we’ve officially confirmed what to expect from Sony for July (which is usually one of the quieter times of the gaming year), we’ve been thinking about it and have come to a conclusion – for subscription services , it was indeed a pretty good month. Especially when the PS Plus Essentials pack acts as an advertisement for PS Premium and other tiers at this point.
To recap, from July 5th, the games you can download are: Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time (PS4, PS5), The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan (PS4) and Arcadegeddon for (PS4, PS5). You have until July 4th to snag the June lineup of games.
Does Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time work?
Crash Bandicoot wowed many critics when it launched in October 2020, and only a few were a little disappointed by the marsupial revival on modern platforms. The game represents the best “get” in this month’s PS Plus lineup, though I think if you have any love for Crash and pals, you should certainly give it a whirl (no pun intended).
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time has received “generally favorable” reviews across all platforms on Metacritic, with a rating of 85. A user rating of 8.1 seems to be in line with the official verdict – rather rare these days.
In my 3 star Crash Bandicoot 4 review, I pointed out:
Loose and erratic physics, tons of different mechanics that often feel a little stilted, and some design choices that feel sadistic—rather than simply difficult—make this approach make Crash Bandicoot feel less real The sequel, more like an empowered spin-off.
As a game on PS Plus, it’s a great addition – I would advise you not to spend any big money on it, but it’s a love letter to the series, and as a (later generational) follower It works great – one of Gundam’s best platformer trilogy ever made. Just don’t expect it to be as good as the original game, and you’ll get sweeter than overripe Wumpa fruit.
Are people of Medan easy to use?
Man of Medan represents the first game in Supermassive’s ambitious compendium of horror: The Dark Pictures Anthology. While few of these games reach the dizzying climax we’ve seen in other supermassive titles like Until Dawn, there’s still some fun in the series’ murky hallways and dark corners.
Man of Medan, like the rest of the anthology, has its quirks, but in the end it’s a bit of a let down. On a smaller scale than its terrifying predecessors, Man of Medan builds on the lessons Supermassive has learned from past projects to deliver a terrifying experience that can be played solo or online with other players.
Since the game has five characters, it also supports couch co-op for up to five players, each controlling a different character in a kind of “through the cushion” setup. So if you need something decent for your next party, it’s worth looking into.
In our 3-star iGamesNews review for People of Medan, we said:
Despite the technical and interactive missteps, the journey of Man of Medan is well worth the start. If you have a soft spot for Quantic Dream’s press-X-’em-ups, it’s ambrosia – cinematic style and catchy pacing without SWAT teams or gratuitous nudity scenes. If you draft a tweet at the mention of David Cage’s self-proclaimed interactive drama, you’re fairly certain you’ll win a temporary ban, it won’t sway you.
The game has a Metacritic rating of 69 and a user rating of 5.8.
Does Arcadegeddon work?
This is the latest in PS Plus games this month, so you may not have heard of it. So, let’s catch up with you: Gilly, the owner of a local arcade, is trying to save his business from a big, unknown company. To do this, he connected all the top arcade games to make a super game. Unfortunately, the big company Fun Fun Co. cracked the game and injected it with a virus. You and your friends need to save the game and the last home arcade.
what does that mean? The game has been in Early Access for a while, so we can’t tell you its official Meta score or really understand how it works. From what we’ve seen, the game is a fast-paced and highly competitive multiplayer shooter that seems to have a captivating effect on those who play it.
The general point is that there are some rough edges, but the core ego is pretty strong — and it has a lot of potential. Hopefully the influx of PS Plus players will help it find its footing.
