Everything is supposed to change with Matter. Finally, smart home products from different manufacturers such as Alexa, Homekit or Google Assistant should no longer be isolated solutions, but should be able to communicate with each other in a meaningful way. And instead of struggling through a jungle of different standards, in future customers should only have to look out for one label: that of Matter.
The launch of Matter is near. So close, in fact, that the two IT giants Apple and Google are now also preparing their smartphone environments for the upcoming launch of the smart home standard in autumn.
Control of Matter devices appears in Android
Google had already announced last year that Matter both with its smart home division Nest
as well as with Android 13. Now the facts finally follow.
Such as Android Police announced, several users report a new area in the settings of the Google account. In this should Matter Devices and Services
let control. The area can be accessed either via the system settings of the smartphone or via the profile picture in Google apps.
What is Matter?
Matter is a connectivity protocol that allows smart home devices from different manufacturers to communicate with each other. In addition to compatibility, it should also ensure more security and reliability. Members of the Matter standard include companies such as Amazon, Apple, Google, Huawei and Signify.
Matter is expected to launch in fall 2022.
New Matter devices should then be added there and devices that are already connected can be managed. The area should also provide information about Matter devices in the vicinity of the smartphone. Currently, however, no devices can be tracked with it.
Matter Accessories
appear in the beta of iOS 16.1
Matter is also an issue at Apple. In the beta for the upcoming iPhone operating system iOS 16.1 there are setting options for Matter accessories.

So far there is only a short information text: The Matter devices listed above have been added to a connected service. They can also be added to additional services with an app that supports Matter.
Apple has not yet officially confirmed that Matter will be supported from the release date. But with the update, the Cupertino-based company is making it clear that it’s prepared for the upcoming Matter launch.
