Sorry, Splinter Cell fans, the movie that was a long time in the making appears to be dead and buried.
As early as 2012, Tom Clancy’s “Splinter Cell” movie was announced to star Tom Hardy as the protagonist Sam Fisher. If you’re not good at dating, a full 12 years have passed since then and apparently the movie never materialized. This isn’t unusual, the Uncharted movie has been in development since 2008 and won’t be released until 2022 (a whole 16 years, wow), and with video game movies doing better than ever, it’s always There is an opportunity to choose to work hard again. But that wasn’t the case, and according to the filmmakers, its development has officially been halted.

Producer Basil Iwanyk spoke about the Splinter Cell movie in an interview with The Direct, saying: “It would have been a really great movie…it just didn’t work out in terms of the script and the budget. to the best. But it’s going to be great. We’ve got a million different versions of it, but it’s going to be one of the hardcore and awesome ones, which is really sad to hear. A million different versions” certainly makes it clear why the final version was never locked, but it’s obviously a shame for fans of the series. At least there will be that animated series next year!
Right now, the overall status of the Splinter Cell series is somewhat up in the air. There hasn’t been a new title since 2013’s The Blacklist, and while a remaster of the original may have been announced as early as 2021, Ubisoft has been pretty quiet about it. The game’s director, David Grivel, also left Ubisoft in 2022, so now it’s a bit like Schrödinger’s Cell. Ubisoft has been in trouble as of late, so I’m sure it’s hoping Assassin’s Creed Shadows will give it a much-needed boost.
