Gaming News It’s no surprise that the fastest-selling PlayStation Studio game in history is reaching a new milestone
It may not have been rewarded at the big video game ceremonies, but Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 still found a few million buyers.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the latest installment from Insomniac, has reached a new milestone: Sony announces that its game has now sold 10 million copies. Remember, this is the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game in 24 hours, with a record 2.5 million copies in one day, ahead of the juggernaut God of War Ragnarok. After a hundred days on the market, Spidey has now reached the beautiful mark of 10 million. For comparison, the very first Marvel’s Spider, released in 2018, sold nine million copies after 80 days of sales before reaching 13.2 million copies after 325 days.
So it’s a nice result for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which came away empty-handed at the last Game Awards. Keep in mind that there were also some complications in the development of the game. In fact, a few months earlier, Insomniac’s boss (Ted Price) and their creative director (Bryan Intihar) took part in the AIAS Game Maker’s Notebook Podcast in which They stated that the developers did not believe they could achieve the quality standards that they and Sony had hoped for. “There was a point in the project where we realized we weren’t going to make it in the second half of the game. We would not meet the quality standards and the discussions became heated. We did this.” I was frustrated that we couldn’t get everything done, and Sony confirmed that they saw it. I couldn’t hide my feelings during that conversation.”, confided Bryan Intihar. With a budget of $315 million, the ambitions between Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the first game were obviously far from the same.
Sony takes stock
These latest figures communicated by Sony are part of a long financial report officially published this week, in which we learn in particular that “the PS5 will enter the final phase of its life cycle,” according to the company, which is even forced to report the lows to review sales forecasts for its PlayStation 5. Sony now aims to sell 21 million units of the PS5 in the current fiscal year, compared to a previously estimated forecast of 25 million units. However, PS5 sales rose to 8.2 million in the third quarter of the box from 6.3 million units in the same quarter last year. However, Bloomberg notes that this number is about a million units lower than previously forecast. Other important news, Sony doesn’t expect major game releases from PlayStation franchises until April 2025 at the earliest, as its efforts will focus on games as a service in the next fiscal year.
