The weekend marked Final Fantasy’s 35th anniversary, and a Japanese poll of the best games basically gave us the top 10 officially.
Despite the name (lol, get it, because Final Fantasy?), there are plenty of Final Fantasy games. There are plenty of new ones every year, even if it’s a spinoff, so everyone will have their favourites. But let’s just focus on the mainline games for now, since that’s what a recent Japanese poll on the series covered, and as shared by one of the 35th anniversary streams (via Resetera), we now have our top 10 A Final Fantasy game, according to fans.
Before I give you the list, remember you can have your favourites, nothing else matters. With this, the result is:

- Final Fantasy V

- Final Fantasy IV

over there! Official, not-so-official, and for some people definitely top 10 official Final Fantasy games until they vote next time for a different anniversary. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone to see Final Fantasy 14 out there, the game was indeed discontinued l ast year because it was too popular. It’s no surprise that Final Fantasy VII came in second, as we all know it to be Square Enix’s golden child.
Personally, I think the list is missing the 13th game that we should all admit is actually pretty good. I’m sure there’s one Final Fantasy game missing from the list that you didn’t like. My advice is to play it and you’ll have fun instead of considering Final Fantasy XV top 10.
The big question is whether this poll has the potential to change entirely, as the next entry in the series, Final Fantasy XVI, is due out in June 2023.
